First Year Interest

First Year Interest Committee (FYI) is comprised of all first-year student and strive to represent the first-year’s views and opinions to Student Senate. This is done through surveys and discussing issues concerning first-years at Drake. In addition to this, we work on Alcohol Awareness Week in the spring and host other small events throughout the year to open dialogue between Senate the first-year students.

Fall 2011 Summary (submitted by Justin Kochanski) 

I am extremely pleased with how well my committee performed this semester. Unfortunately I wasn’t around for the start of First-Year Interest (FYI), but at the beginning of the year they laid out some of their goals and hopes for the semester. They literally achieved or touched upon every single on of them which is pretty impressive for a group of freshmen coming together.

Since I hopped on board a little late in the semester we did not have enough time to plan a large event, but we did touch base on a few important things around campus. We worked with the admissions office getting feedback on various freshman based activities (orientations, welcome weekend) and also kicked off the Bleeding Blue Hall of the Year Campaign. We are going to start off next semester with a strategic meeting and lay out our goals and hopes for this next semester.
