Student Body President
Hola, Bulldogs! My name is Jose Garcia-Fuerte and I am the Student Body President for the 2018-2019 academic year. I was born in Mexico City, Mexico but came to Drake from Denver, Colorado – the scenery is quite different. There’s no mountains here. I am a Junior majoring in Law, Politics and Society (LPS) with a concentration in Business Law.
I have been engaged with the Student Senate since my first year: I served on the Community Outreach Committee and the President’s Panel my first year, was elected as one of the Equity & Inclusion Senators my second year, and was elected Student Body President before finishing off my Sophomore year. As your Student Body President, I promise to place your voice and experience as a Drake Bulldog at the forefront of everything that I do within this office. The Drake Student Senate will prioritize your concerns, needs, and wants for our campus and student experience all the while sticking true to the values of equity & inclusion, active and respectful community engagement, and loyalty to the student body.
While not on campus, I work at an Employment Law firm in Des Moines advocating for employee’s civil rights in the workplace and advancing the work of civil liberties for all people. During summer weekends, I coach soccer for children ages 2-5 years old and spend a significant amount of time jogging the streets of our wonderful city that is Des Moines.
I look forward to getting an opportunity to sit and talk with you!
